Wel­come meet­ing set for new Berks Parks and Rec vol­un­teers

The Berks County Parks and Re­cre­ation Depart­ment will wel­come new vol­un­teers on Thurs­day, March 2, at 9:30 a.m. at the Berks County Her­itage Cen­ter, 1102 Red Bridge Road, Bern Town­ship, for an in­for­ma­tional train­ing ses­sion.

Snow date for this ses­sion is Thurs­day, March 9. A welcoming meet­ing for new vol­un­teers in­ter­ested in the Gru­ber Wagon Works will also be held at the Her­itage Cen­ter on Satur­day, March 11, at 1 p.m.

Vol­un­teers are crit­i­cal to the op­er­a­tion of the parks depart­ment and any­one in­ter­ested in any as­pect of vol­un­teer­ing is en­cour­aged to at­tend. Op­por­tu­ni­ties in­clude: serv­ing as tour guides for the Gru­ber Wagon Works and the Hi­ester Canal Cen­ter, fes­ti­val and spe­cial event plan­ning, vis­i­tor as­sis­tance, and cus­tomer ser­vice at our Snack Bar and Coun­try Store, archival and col­lec­tions work, main­te­nance and trail work in all parks in­clud­ing the An­gora Fruit Farm at An­ti­etam Lake Park. The Parks Depart­ment al­ways needs vol­un­teer helpers for (or to be!) Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny!

There are short and longterm vol­un­teer op­por­tu­ni­ties avail­able for var­i­ous sched­ules through­out the year.

The Berks County Her­itage Cen­ter ad­dress is 1102 Red Bridge Road, Read­ing, PA 19605. En­trance to the park is lo­cated at the in­ter­sec­tion of Route 183 and Red Bridge Road (at Hoff­man’s Garage and the en­trance to the Penn State Health St. Joseph Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Bern Town­ship).
