Welcome meeting set for new Berks Parks and Rec volunteers
The Berks County Parks and Recreation Department will welcome new volunteers on Thursday, March 2, at 9:30 a.m. at the Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Road, Bern Township, for an informational training session.
Snow date for this session is Thursday, March 9. A welcoming meeting for new volunteers interested in the Gruber Wagon Works will also be held at the Heritage Center on Saturday, March 11, at 1 p.m.
Volunteers are critical to the operation of the parks department and anyone interested in any aspect of volunteering is encouraged to attend. Opportunities include: serving as tour guides for the Gruber Wagon Works and the Hiester Canal Center, festival and special event planning, visitor assistance, and customer service at our Snack Bar and Country Store, archival and collections work, maintenance and trail work in all parks including the Angora Fruit Farm at Antietam Lake Park. The Parks Department always needs volunteer helpers for (or to be!) Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny!
There are short and longterm volunteer opportunities available for various schedules throughout the year.
The Berks County Heritage Center address is 1102 Red Bridge Road, Reading, PA 19605. Entrance to the park is located at the intersection of Route 183 and Red Bridge Road (at Hoffman’s Garage and the entrance to the Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Bern Township).
