Rec Board hosts Cool Fun in the Hot Sun.

At­ten­dees gather in­for­ma­tion about ac­tiv­i­ties, groups of­fer­ing sum­mer fun

The Fleet­wood Recre­ation Board re­cently spon­sored an­other fam­ily ori­ented event on June 14 at the Town Square, lo­cated on the 100 block of Main Street. It was a sum­mer in­for­ma­tion event called Cool Fun in the Hot Sun. Adults and chil­dren re­ceived in­for­ma­tion about var­i­ous or­ga­ni­za­tions and groups, and the ac­tiv­i­ties that are of­fered for youth over the sum­mer.

In at­ten­dance were rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the TriVal­ley YMCA, Fleet­wood Pool, Fleet­wood Com­mu­nity The­atre, Fleet­wood Area Public Li­brary, and St. Paul’s UCC.

Shel­ley Ep­pi­himer, rep­re­sent­ing the Tri Val­ley YMCA, brought a sand ta­ble for a “dig­ging ex­pe­di­tion” for chil­dren. Ob­jects were lo­cated by iden­ti­fi­ca­tion with a pic­ture and then sand ex­ca­va­tion with a shovel.

The YMCA Play­ground Pro­gram be­gins June 19 and of­fers mul­ti­ple ac­tiv­i­ties for ages Kinder­garten through sixth grade. The Tri-Val­ley YMCA lo­cated in Fleet­wood of­fers year round fam­ily well­ness and fun, as well as child care. Mary Tem­plin, rep­re­sent­ing the Fleet­wood Pool, of­fered in­for­ma­tion on pool mem­ber­ships and up­com­ing ac­tiv­i­ties. “Elvis” will be vis­it­ing the pool on June 22 at 7:30 p.m., Fam­ily Fun Night is July 16 start­ing at 6 p.m., and Au­gust 3 at 7:30 p.m. is mu­sic en­joy­ment by Jeff Krick. The pool also of­fers wa­ter aer­o­bics and swim lessons. The Fleet­wood Com­mu­nity The­atre was rep­re­sented by vice pres­i­dent, Ken Dri­es­tadt. The The­atre group of­fers op­por­tu­ni­ties to par­tic­i­pate in var­i­ous as­pects of the­atre pro­duc­tion and per­for­mance. The up­com­ing pre­sen­ta­tion of Oliver at the Fleet­wood High School Au­di­to­rium be­gins July 20 and runs un­til July 22. Tick­ets in ad­vance are $15 and at the door $18. The Fleet­wood Area Public Li­brary is ex­cited to be­gin their 2017 Sum­mer Learn­ing Pro­gram. Chil­dren and teens earn prizes for read­ing and for acts of kind­ness this sum­mer! Mon­days are busy days at the li­brary with morn­ings at 9:30 a.m. with the STEAM Club and Mon­day Night Fam­ily Pro­grams be­gin­ning at 6:30 p.m. Wed­nes­day morn­ing’s of­fer Story times and Spe­cial Events through­out the sum­mer. St. Paul’s UCC was rep­re­sented by Stacy Laucks. The Fleet­wood Rec Board is look­ing for­ward to spon­sor­ing more sea­sonal events at the Fleet­wood Town Square. Last fall, the open­ing cer­e­mony for the Town Square took place on Oc­to­ber 16 with Mayor Tammy Gore cut­ting the rib­bon for the Fleet­wood Fall Pump­kin Fun Day. Chil­dren par­tic­i­pated in pump­kin dec­o­rat­ing, face paint­ing, and trick or treat­ing at this event. And last De­cem­ber, Santa’s elves took over to help chil­dren with a Free Chil­dren’s Crafts Work­shop with chil­dren mak­ing or­na­ments, crafts, and dec­o­ra­tions.
