Schuylkill-Berks League announces 2017 All-Star Team
The Schuylkill-Berks American Legion Baseball program released its 2017 All-Star Team last week.
The Schuylkill-Berks All-Stars will take on the All-Stars from the Lehigh Valley League on Tuesday, July 11 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading. Gates open at 6 p.m. and first pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
The Post 217 Patriots will send a league-high five representatives to the game including Ben Flicker, Austin Kunkel, Pete Vaccaro, Tyler Wentzel and Daymond Zweizig. Hamburg will send four representatives in Logan Adams, Cory Evangelista, Ryan Smith and Janson Youndt while Kutztown’s lone representative will be Matt Angstadt.

The Patriots are 12-1 and currently hold the No. 2 seed in the league behind the unbeaten Muhlenberg A’s.

WENTZEL » Infielder is hitting .485 on the year with a gaudy .848 slugging percentage. He’s got three doubles and three home runs to go along with 10
RBI and 14 runs scored.
Third baseman boasts a .367 average with two home runs and four doubles. He’s racked up 11 RBI and eight runs scored.
The Reds sit at No. 3 in the league with an 11-2 record, their lone league losses against Muhlenberg and Post 217.
Second baseman/pitcher boasts a .436 batting average with four doubles, three triples and a home run to go along with 14 RBI and 11 runs scored. He’s 4-1 on the mound with a 4.15 earnedrun average across 17-1/3 innings pitched.
Shortstop boasts a .312 average with 11 runs scored and eight RBI.
Shortstop/pitcher boasts a .308 batting average with seven runs scored and 14 RBI. He’s also posted a pair of doubles and two home runs. On the mound, Smith has a 2.39 ERA in 261/3 innings pitched.
First baseman/ pitcher leads the team in average (.500), hits (21) and runs scored (16) to go along with a .553 on-base percentage. He’s got three doubles and two triples along with nine RBI. On the mound, he’s got a 1-1 record with a 3.38 ERA in 18-2/3 innings pitched.
The Cougars are 6-7 in the league. Kutztown ended its regular season on a two-game win streak in the league, posting a 10-6 win over Tulpehocken then following it with a 14-7 win over Tamaqua.
Pitcher/first baseman has racked up 30 innings pitched on the way to three wins and a 3.00 ERA. He’s struck out 22 batters and only walked five. Angstadt also swings the big bat, posting a teambest eight hits for a .229 average with a double and 11 RBI.
*** Elsewhere around the Schuylkill-Berks circuit, Muhlenberg will send four representatives in Braydon Keller, Jake Kuczawa, Tyler McGonigle and Sal Raccuglia. Valley View will send Willy Kimmel and Brandon Rockwell while Pine Grove’s Jake Leininger and Tanner Levan will also suit up.Southern Area will send Dan Greenawalt and Jack McGivigan while Post 625’s Brice Hawkins and Jeremiah Jacoby earned the nod.
Lone representatives for their teams will also be Nick Breiner (Tamaqua), Steele Fekette (Minersville), Josh Jacavage (Schuylkill Valley), Ben Wanner (Tulpehocken) and Darian Jacoby (Pottsville).
Matthew Angstadt (7) will represent Kutztown on the Schuylkill-Berks League All-Star team.
