Schuylkill-Berks League an­nounces 2017 All-Star Team

The Schuylkill-Berks Amer­i­can Le­gion Base­ball pro­gram re­leased its 2017 All-Star Team last week.

The Schuylkill-Berks All-Stars will take on the All-Stars from the Le­high Val­ley League on Tues­day, July 11 at FirstEn­ergy Sta­dium in Read­ing. Gates open at 6 p.m. and first pitch is slated for 7 p.m.

The Post 217 Pa­tri­ots will send a league-high five rep­re­sen­ta­tives to the game in­clud­ing Ben Flicker, Austin Kunkel, Pete Vac­caro, Tyler Wentzel and Day­mond Zweizig. Ham­burg will send four rep­re­sen­ta­tives in Lo­gan Adams, Cory Evan­ge­lista, Ryan Smith and Jan­son Youndt while Kutz­town’s lone rep­re­sen­ta­tive will be Matt Angstadt.

The Pa­tri­ots are 12-1 and cur­rently hold the No. 2 seed in the league be­hind the un­beaten Muh­len­berg A’s.

Third base­man boasts a .367 av­er­age with two home runs and four dou­bles. He’s racked up 11 RBI and eight runs scored.


The Reds sit at No. 3 in the league with an 11-2 record, their lone league losses against Muh­len­berg and Post 217.

Sec­ond base­man/pitcher boasts a .436 bat­ting av­er­age with four dou­bles, three triples and a home run to go along with 14 RBI and 11 runs scored. He’s 4-1 on the mound with a 4.15 earne­drun av­er­age across 17-1/3 in­nings pitched.

Short­stop boasts a .312 av­er­age with 11 runs scored and eight RBI.

Short­stop/pitcher boasts a .308 bat­ting av­er­age with seven runs scored and 14 RBI. He’s also posted a pair of dou­bles and two home runs. On the mound, Smith has a 2.39 ERA in 261/3 in­nings pitched.

First base­man/ pitcher leads the team in av­er­age (.500), hits (21) and runs scored (16) to go along with a .553 on-base per­cent­age. He’s got three dou­bles and two triples along with nine RBI. On the mound, he’s got a 1-1 record with a 3.38 ERA in 18-2/3 in­nings pitched.


The Cougars are 6-7 in the league. Kutz­town ended its reg­u­lar sea­son on a two-game win streak in the league, post­ing a 10-6 win over Tulpe­hocken then fol­low­ing it with a 14-7 win over Ta­maqua.

Pitcher/first base­man has racked up 30 in­nings pitched on the way to three wins and a 3.00 ERA. He’s struck out 22 bat­ters and only walked five. Angstadt also swings the big bat, post­ing a teambest eight hits for a .229 av­er­age with a dou­ble and 11 RBI.

*** Else­where around the Schuylkill-Berks cir­cuit, Muh­len­berg will send four rep­re­sen­ta­tives in Bray­don Keller, Jake Kuczawa, Tyler McGonigle and Sal Rac­cuglia. Val­ley View will send Willy Kim­mel and Brandon Rock­well while Pine Grove’s Jake Leininger and Tan­ner Le­van will also suit up.South­ern Area will send Dan Greenawalt and Jack McGivi­gan while Post 625’s Brice Hawkins and Jeremiah Ja­coby earned the nod.

Lone rep­re­sen­ta­tives for their teams will also be Nick Breiner (Ta­maqua), Steele Fekette (Min­ersville), Josh Ja­cav­age (Schuylkill Val­ley), Ben Wan­ner (Tulpe­hocken) and Dar­ian Ja­coby (Pottsville).


Matthew Angstadt (7) will rep­re­sent Kutz­town on the Schuylkill-Berks League All-Star team.
