Hawk Moun­tain re­ceives grant from PPL Foun­da­tion

Hawk Moun­tain Sanc­tu­ary an­nounces a $5,000 gen­eral op­er­at­ing grant from the PPL Foun­da­tion.

“This type of grant sup­ports ev­ery­thing we do at Hawk Moun­tain Sanc­tu­ary, from global train­ing and re­search to lead­ing school groups to wel­com­ing hik­ers,” said Di­rec­tor of De­vel­op­ment Mary Linke­vich. “We couldn’t be more grate­ful.”

Gen­eral op­er­at­ing grants are the Sanc­tu­ary’s most im­por­tant form of sup­port, un­der­writ­ing all Hawk Moun­tain con­ser­va­tion science and ed­u­ca­tion pro­grams, vis­i­tor ser­vices and Sanc­tu­ary op­er­a­tions and main­te­nance.

The fund­ing will con­trib­ute to the nu­mer­ous ed­u­ca­tional events, work­shops and lec­tures that are pro­vided for mem­bers and the pub­lic, as well as con­tin­ued sup­port for on­go­ing con­ser­va­tion re­search.

The PPL Foun­da­tion awards an­nual grants through a com­pet­i­tive ap­pli­ca­tion and re­view process.

“PPL is com­mit­ted to im­prov­ing the com­mu­ni­ties where our cus­tomers and em­ploy­ees live and work,” said Ryan Hill, pres­i­dent of the PPL Foun­da­tion. “Or­ga­ni­za­tions like Hawk Moun­tain im­prove the qual­ity of life in our re­gion, and we are pleased to be able to pro­vide sup­port for such an im­por­tant ini­tia­tive.”

Through strate­gic part­ner­ships, the PPL Foun­da­tion sup­ports or­ga­ni­za­tions that are do­ing in­no­va­tive and ground­break­ing work to cre­ate vi­tal, sus­tain­able com­mu­ni­ties and em­pow­er­ing each cit­i­zen to ful­fill their po­ten­tial. The PPL Foun­da­tion con­trib­utes more than $2 mil­lion an­nu­ally to a wide va­ri­ety of non­profit or­ga­ni­za­tions. For more in­for­ma­tion, visit pplcares.com.

The 2,500-acre Hawk Moun­tain Sanc­tu­ary is the world’s first refuge for birds of prey and is open to the pub­lic year-round by trail-fee or mem­ber­ship, which in turn sup­ports the non­profit or­ga­ni­za­tion’s raptor con­ser­va­tion mis­sion and lo­cal-to-global re­search, train­ing and ed­u­ca­tion pro­grams.
