KU women’s soccer ranked No. 1
The Kutztown University women’s soccer team continues its historic 2017 season. With two more victories last week, the Golden Bears climbed all the way to the top of Division II. KU was voted first in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Week 5 Poll released lastTuesday.
This is the first time that Kutztown women’s soccer has been ranked number one in the nation. It becomes 1-of-3 KU programs to be ranked No. 1 - joining 2007 baseball and 2007 field hockey.
KU is also first in the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region Rankings. Note: the official NCAA regional poll released next month will play the deciding factor in regional playoff seedings.
The Golden Bears (10-0 overall, 8-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) defeated West Chester University 2-0 last Wednesday, Sept. 27 and then three days later took down Mercyhurst University 4-2.
In their first game at No. 1, KU downed Clarion, 6-0. Leading scorer Emily Zwiercan scored her 10th goal in the victory.
The 11 consecutive wins to open up the season is the most ever for the program.
