Suzuki homers in Braves loss
Baldwin graduate finishes 2-for-4, giving impressive July numbers another boost
PHILADELPHIA — Kurt Suzuki homered and finished 2-for-4 for the Atlanta Braves on Friday in a 10-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.
Suzuki provided Atlanta’s first run of the game by leading off the seventh inning with a home run. The Baldwin High School graduate also singled in the eighth, and is batting .389 in nine games this month, with seven homers.
Suzuki also committed an error in the first inning — Freddy Galvis stole third base, and came home when Suzuki’s throw went into left field.
Philadelphia’s Jake Thompson (1-0) pitched five scoreless innings in an emergency start, replacing Jeremy Hellickson, who was scratched an hour before the game and then traded to the Baltimore Orioles.
Aaron Altherr homered twice for Philadelphia.
Atlanta’s Julio Teheran (7-9) allowed eight runs in 4 2/3 innings.
The Braves lost for the fifth time in six games.
