Suzuki homers in Braves loss

Bald­win grad­u­ate fin­ishes 2-for-4, giv­ing im­pres­sive July num­bers an­other boost

PHILADEL­PHIA — Kurt Suzuki home­red and fin­ished 2-for-4 for the At­lanta Braves on Fri­day in a 10-3 loss to the Philadel­phia Phillies.

Suzuki pro­vided At­lanta’s first run of the game by lead­ing off the sev­enth in­ning with a home run. The Bald­win High School grad­u­ate also sin­gled in the eighth, and is bat­ting .389 in nine games this month, with seven homers.

Suzuki also com­mit­ted an er­ror in the first in­ning — Freddy Galvis stole third base, and came home when Suzuki’s throw went into left field.

Philadel­phia’s Jake Thomp­son (1-0) pitched five score­less in­nings in an emer­gency start, re­plac­ing Jeremy Hel­lick­son, who was scratched an hour be­fore the game and then traded to the Bal­ti­more Ori­oles.

Aaron Altherr home­red twice for Philadel­phia.

At­lanta’s Julio Te­heran (7-9) al­lowed eight runs in 4 2/3 in­nings.

The Braves lost for the fifth time in six games.
