Maui bows out of Palomino tour­na­ment

Maui was elim­i­nated from the Pony League Palomino (17-18) Divi­sion West Zone tour­na­ment Fri­day with a 9-5 loss to the Colton (Calif.) Nighthawks in Comp­ton, Calif.

Micah Jio and Iokepa Sup­net each had two hits for Maui. Tristan Carter was the los­ing pitcher.

Maui coach Kelly Fliear said via text mes­sage that the games at the MLB Ur­ban Youth Academy pro­vided a “good ex­pe­ri­ence for our play­ers.”

The Val­ley Isle is now down to three teams still play­ing in youth league tour­na­ments.

Maui will face the Cave Creek (Ariz.) Coy­otes on Aug. 3 in the Pony (13-14) West Zones in Moun­tain View, Calif.

Cen­tral East Maui Lit­tle League will play North Palm Beach, Fla., in the In­ter­me­di­ate (12-13) Divi­sion World Se­ries on Sun­day in Liver­more, Calif., and Cen­tral’s team in the Se­nior (15-16) League World Se­ries will face Easley, S.C., or West Univer­sity of Hous­ton on Sun­day in Easley.
