Red Cross worker sent to mudslides

The Maui News - - TODAY’S PEOPLE -

A Red Cross worker from Maui has been deployed to assist with the agency’s response to the California mudslides.

The worker and another from Oahu will be assisting with the coordination of workers, the Hawaii Red Cross said Thursday.

Heavy rains have stopped in California but the risk of additional mudslides still exists where wildfires scorched thousands of acres. The mudslides destroyed as many as 100 homes and damaged about 300 others.

The Red Cross is providing shelter and other services for people impacted by the disaster. Overnight, almost 30 people stayed in three Red Cross shelters. Trained disaster workers also are providing health and mental health services.
