Pub­lic hear­ing set for mayor’s bud­get

The Maui County Coun­cil will hold a pub­lic hear­ing at 6 p.m. Wed­nes­day in the Coun­cil Cham­bers for in­put on Mayor Alan Arakawa’s pro­posed fis­cal 2019 bud­get.

Arakawa has pro­posed an $820 mil­lion bud­get, with $605 mil­lion for the op­er­at­ing bud­get and a cap­i­tal pro­gram bud­get of $214.9 mil­lion.

The full coun­cil has un­til June 10 to take ac­tion on the

bud­get; oth­er­wise the mayor’s pro­posed bud­get be­comes law. The bud­get goes into ef­fect July 1.

The hear­ing will be on the eighth floor of the Kalana O Maui build­ing at 200 S. High St. in Wailuku.

The pro­posed bud­get may be ex­am­ined dur­ing reg­u­lar busi­ness hours in the Of­fice of the County Clerk on the county build­ing’s sev­enth floor. It also may be re­viewed at pub­lic li­braries and at the Hana, Lanai and Molokai coun­cil district of­fices. It can be found at­get-Doc­u­ments-Or­di­nances.
