Waterline break shuts down road
A break in an 8-inch waterline closed a portion of Lower Honoapiilani Road on Monday, the county Department of Water Supply reported.
The road was open to local traffic only from Napilihau Street to Hoohui Road, and it was closed in front of the Kahana Sunset. Motorists were advised to use alternate routes and follow detour instructions.
Condominiums and other customers along Lower Honoapiilani Road from Hale Malia Place to Hui Road E were without water service, and on Monday afternoon water department officials reported a water tanker had been
parked outside the Kahana Sunset. Customers were able to bring their own containers to fill up water.
The waterline break was reported at 10 a.m. Monday. Water service was expected to be restored and the road reopened within 12 hours.
Once water service was restored, residents were advised to flush their waterlines to ensure that sediment didn’t accumulate during repair work.
Additional water department personnel were dispatched to help a crew in Lahaina, said department Administrative Officer Jacky Takakura.
