Wa­ter­line break shuts down road

A break in an 8-inch wa­ter­line closed a por­tion of Lower Honoapi­ilani Road on Mon­day, the county Depart­ment of Wa­ter Sup­ply re­ported.

The road was open to lo­cal traf­fic only from Napil­i­hau Street to Hoohui Road, and it was closed in front of the Ka­hana Sun­set. Mo­torists were ad­vised to use al­ter­nate routes and fol­low de­tour in­struc­tions.

Con­do­mini­ums and other cus­tomers along Lower Honoapi­ilani Road from Hale Malia Place to Hui Road E were with­out wa­ter ser­vice, and on Mon­day af­ter­noon wa­ter depart­ment of­fi­cials re­ported a wa­ter tanker had been

parked out­side the Ka­hana Sun­set. Cus­tomers were able to bring their own con­tain­ers to fill up wa­ter.

The wa­ter­line break was re­ported at 10 a.m. Mon­day. Wa­ter ser­vice was ex­pected to be re­stored and the road re­opened within 12 hours.

Once wa­ter ser­vice was re­stored, res­i­dents were ad­vised to flush their wa­ter­lines to en­sure that sed­i­ment didn’t ac­cu­mu­late dur­ing re­pair work.

Ad­di­tional wa­ter depart­ment per­son­nel were dis­patched to help a crew in La­haina, said depart­ment Ad­min­is­tra­tive Of­fi­cer Jacky Takakura.
