Vet­er­ans Day events planned for Sun­day

Vet­er­ans Day events will be held on Sun­day, while gov­ern­ment of­fices and schools will be closed in ob­ser­va­tion of the hol­i­day on Mon­day.

A flo­ral pre­sen­ta­tion will be­gin at 8:30 a.m. Sun­day at the Maui Vet­er­ans Ceme­tery in Makawao. It will be fol­lowed by a pro­gram from 9 to 11 a.m. Light re­fresh­ments will be served.

A Vet­er­ans Day pic­nic will be held for vet­er­ans and their fam­i­lies from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sun­day at Kalama Park in Ki­hei. Food, soda and wa­ter will be pro­vided. There will be live en­ter­tain­ment.

Canned goods will be ac­cepted for the Maui Food Bank and home­less vet­er­ans.

On Mon­day, all pub­lic schools and fed­eral, state and county of­fices will be closed in ob­ser­vance of Vet­er­ans Day.

Res­i­den­tial trash will be picked up as nor­mal. The Hana and Lanai land­fills along with Molokai Land­fill & Re­cy­cling will be closed.

The Cen­tral Maui Land­fill and EKO Com­post Re­cy­cling will be open from 6 a.m. to noon. Olowalu Re­cy­cling will be open from 8 a.m. to noon.

Most pub­lic li­braries will be closed on Mon­day, with the ex­cep­tion of Makawao Pub­lic Li­brary. It will be open from noon to 8 p.m.

The Maui News busi­ness of­fices will be open Mon­day with nor­mal hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
