Veterans Day events planned for Sunday
Veterans Day events will be held on Sunday, while government offices and schools will be closed in observation of the holiday on Monday.
A floral presentation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao. It will be followed by a program from 9 to 11 a.m. Light refreshments will be served.
A Veterans Day picnic will be held for veterans and their families from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Kalama Park in Kihei. Food, soda and water will be provided. There will be live entertainment.
Canned goods will be accepted for the Maui Food Bank and homeless veterans.
On Monday, all public schools and federal, state and county offices will be closed in observance of Veterans Day.
Residential trash will be picked up as normal. The Hana and Lanai landfills along with Molokai Landfill & Recycling will be closed.
The Central Maui Landfill and EKO Compost Recycling will be open from 6 a.m. to noon. Olowalu Recycling will be open from 8 a.m. to noon.
Most public libraries will be closed on Monday, with the exception of Makawao Public Library. It will be open from noon to 8 p.m.
The Maui News business offices will be open Monday with normal hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
