PACIFICA — A 36-yearold man wanted in connection with the repeated sexual assault of a minor surrendered to authorities this week in Tijuana, Mexico, according to police.

Police began investigat- ing the case in June and identified Pedro Diaz Morales as a suspect.

An $8 million warrant was eventually issued for his arrest on 60 counts of sexual assault.

The crimes occurred over the course of a year, according to police. Morales allegedly fled to the state of Chiapas, Mexico, his country of origin, dur- ing the investigation.

Police worked with the U.S. Marshals Service and law enforcement in Mexico to find and arrest Morales, who surrendered to authorities Tuesday.

An effort is underway to extradite Morales from Tijuana to San Mateo County for trial.

Additional details about the case, including Morales’ connection to the victim, were not immediately available.
