Santa Clara rolls on record-breaking night from 3-point land

Kratch leads Broncos with career-best 32 as they top 100 points

Nate Kratch had a career-high 32 points on 13-of16 shooting, and Santa Clara set a school record with 22 3-pointers to beat Pepperdine 106-55 on Thursday night.

Kratch made 5 of 7 from 3-point range for the Broncos (15-13, 9-6), who set a record for win margin against a West Coast Conference opponent and reached the 100-point mark for the first time against a Division I foe in nine years.

Santa Clara led 54-19 after making 75 percent of its shots from the field in the first half and finished at 63.9 percent — 61.1 percent on 36 long-range attempts.

K.J. Feagin added 18 points, making all six of his 3-point attempts, Jared Brownridge had 12 points and 10 assists.

Nolan Taylor had 14 points, Lamond Murray Jr. scored 12 and Jonathan Allen 11 for the Waves (9-18, 5-10). Saint Mary’s 81, Loyola

Marymount 48: Jock Landale had 16 points and 11 rebounds, the No. 22 Gaels handled the Lions at McKeon Pavilion. Evan Fitzner had a season-high 13 points — all in the first half — and Calvin Hermanson added 11 to help the Gaels (23- 3, 13-2West Coast Conference) to their eighth win in nine games. Playing for the first time since losing to No. 1 Gonzaga last week, Saint Mary’s showed no lingering effects and led by as many as 38 points while extending its winning streak to 11 straight against the Lions (12-14, 5-10).

Gonzaga 96, USF 61: Nigel Williams- Goss scored 30 points as undefeated and the top-ranked Zags rolled, extending the nation’s longest winning streak to 27 games. Przemek-Karnowski added 23 points and seven rebounds for Gonzaga (270, 15- 0 West Coast), which is seeking to become the first team since Kentucky in 2015 to go undefeated in the regular season. Chase Foster had 15 points, and Matt McCarthy added 11 for USF (18-10, 8-7). The Dons have dropped 11 straight to Gonzaga and 28 in a row in Spokane dating to 1989. Williams-Goss, a junior guard, added six rebounds and seven assists as he torched the Dons for at least 30 points for the second time this season.

USF shot well to lead for a good portion of the first half, until a late surge gave Gonzaga a 42-35 lead at halftime. Arizona 78, Washington

St. 59: Lauri Markkanen scored 19 points on 7- of-13 shooting and pulled down 11 rebounds to help the fifthranke­d Wildcats breeze past the Cougars. Arizona (24- 3, 13-1 Pac-12) trailed for just over 10 minutes in the first half but carried a 166 run into halftime, when it led by nine. Ike Iroegbu led the Cougars (11-15, 4-10) with 17 points.

Oregon 79, Utah 61: Dillon Brooks had 20 points, and the seventh-ranked Ducks rolled to extend their home winning streak to 41 games. Jordan Bell added 17 points for the Ducks (23- 4, 12-2 Pac-12). Jayce Johnson had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Utah (17- 8, 8- 6), playing without top scorer Kyle Kuzma because of a sprained ankle. Michigan 64, Wisconsin

58: Moe Wagner scored 21 points, and Zak Irvin broke out of a slump with 18, helping the Wolverines (17-9, 7- 6 Big Ten) beat the No. 11 Badgers for their third straight win. The Badgers (21- 5, 10- 3) lost consecutiv­e games for the first time this season.

Coach fired: North Carolina State men’s basketball coach Mark Gottfried won’t return for a seventh season but will coach the remainder of this season. The school announced the decision less than a day after the Wolfpack fell by 24 points to 10th-ranked rival North Carolina in the team’s sixth straight loss. Gottfried had a 122- 82 re- cordwith theWolfpac­k. But N.C. State has slid to 30- 30 over the past two seasons, including 8-24 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Women

LMU 72, Saint Mary’s 57: The Gaels (15-11, 10- 5WCC) committed a season-high 27 turnovers in the loss, including 17 in the first half. Loyola Marymount (12-14, 7- 8 WCC) scored 32 points off Saint Mary’s turnovers and built a 31-point lead early in the fourth quarter. Sydney Raggio had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Gaels.
