Arrests made in killing at Ascent Apartments
Lam Thanh Mac and Nicole Marie De La Grange charged in shooting of 24-year-old
SANJOSE » Authorities have arrested aman and woman in connection with the fatal shooting of a 24-yearold San Jose resident they did not know at the Ascent Apartments earlier this year.
The San Jose Police Department’s Covert Response Unit arrested 32- yearold Lam Thanh Mac and 31-year- old Nicole Marie De La Grange on Feb. 27, according to San Jose police Officer Gina Tepoorten. Both were booked into Santa Clara County jail, Mac on a charge of murder and De La Grange on a charge of accessory after the fact.
The police department disclosed the arrests Wednesday night.
On the evening of Jan. 21, officers responded to the Ascent Apartments in the 5800 block of Charlotte Drive, near Raleigh and Cottle roads, for reports of shots fired. They arrived to find Jose Cortez suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tepoorten said detectives linkedMac and De La Grange to the fatal shooting through a follow-up investigation.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, but detectives have determined that the victims and suspects did not know each other, Tepoorten said.
