January is too soon to safely reopen schools

-

I understand why some parents are eager for their children to go back to school (“San Jose Unified plans to reopen classrooms,” Page B1, Nov. 4) as it is hard for some kids to learn remotely, but I have to say that January is too soon.

This week the number of COVID-19 cases is at its alltime high. Every other country in the world has gotten the number of cases down except for the U.S. This should be alarming to parents not pushing the school district to reopen. Once schools reopen cases will get higher and hurt even more people.

I would assume that parents would want to keep their children as safe as possible, so why reopen germ-filled schools for young children to be at high risk of catching such a deadly virus? I think it’s better to keep schools online until this whole virus is over. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
