20-year-old South Bay crash victim identified

Authoritie­s have identified a 20-year- old Milpitas woman who died in a onecar freeway crash Wednesday.

Amber Russell was the passenger in a 2003 Nissan 350Z that veered off northbound Interstate 680 around 10:25 a.m. Thursday, the California Highway Patrol said. She died at the scene, near near the Highway 4 exit.

The driver of the car, a 22-year- old Milpitas man, survived the crash with major injuries, the CHP said. He is expected to recover.

The Nissan lost control for reasons that have not yet been determined by the CHP and veered into the concrete barrier. It then went back across all of the freeway lanes and off the roadway altogether, the CHP said.

Toxicolog y tests performed in an autopsy will determine whether there were drugs or alcohol involved.
