Creative approach can help residents prevent flooding

-

The agencies involved in the recent stoppage of the Berryessa Creek Flood Control Project may want to be a little creative in finding solutions.

Santa Clara Valley Water District should consider a program to encourage residents, especially in that area, to build/create wildlife habitats in their yards. This may be used to offset or in lieu of the request to restore 15 acres of wetlands.

I just visited the Isle of Wight, United Kingdom. One outing was called “Dawn Chorus”. An experienced Audubon member took our group in an area along one of their creeks to find and listen to wildlife birds. He explained how wonderfully diversified that area was because the backyards boarding the creek enhanced the area by establishing small animal habitats. This program could be administered similar to the water conservation program for homes. Antonina Ettare San Jose
