Mary Kathryn Crompton
August 27, 1930-September 3, 2018 Los Gatos
Mary Crompton, a 60-year resident of Los Gatos, died peacefully at home on September 3, 2018. Mary was born on August 27, 1930 to William and Jane Finnegan near Salida, Colorado. She lived her early years on the family ranch in San Miguel County and boarded for school in nearby Telluride. She graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder and was a life-long Buffaloes supporter and member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Mary returned home to Telluride after college where she met Richard (Dick) Crompton, who was visiting his brother and sister-in-law there. They were married in Telluride on June 14, 1953 and then moved to California for Dick to finish law school. The couple eventually settled in Los Gatos where they raised seven children and were active members of the St. Mary’s church and school communities. Dick passed away in 1985 and Mary began a career as a bookkeeper that lasted another 20 years. Only a difficult disease such as Dystonia, which impacts speech, sight and physical movement, kept her from continuing.
Mary is predeceased by her parents, brothers and sister, her husband and eldest son, Mike, who passed away earlier this year. She is survived by her children John, Mark, Kathy, Jim, Patty and Liz and their spouses along with 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews and many close friends. Mary was a world traveler, champion bridge player, a musician, supporter of great causes, a teacher, and a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and true friend to many, many people.
Services will be held at the Church of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 219 Bean Avenue, Los Gatos, on Saturday, October 20 at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Sacred Heart Community Services (https://sacredheartcs.org/), which Mary supported with her time and money for many years.
