Au­gust 27, 1930-Septem­ber 3, 2018 Los Gatos

Mary Cromp­ton, a 60-year res­i­dent of Los Gatos, died peace­fully at home on Septem­ber 3, 2018. Mary was born on Au­gust 27, 1930 to Wil­liam and Jane Fin­negan near Sal­ida, Colorado. She lived her early years on the fam­ily ranch in San Miguel County and boarded for school in nearby Tel­luride. She grad­u­ated from the Univer­sity of Colorado at Boul­der and was a life-long Buf­faloes sup­porter and mem­ber of the Al­pha Delta Pi soror­ity. Mary re­turned home to Tel­luride af­ter col­lege where she met Richard (Dick) Cromp­ton, who was vis­it­ing his brother and sis­ter-in-law there. They were mar­ried in Tel­luride on June 14, 1953 and then moved to Cal­i­for­nia for Dick to fin­ish law school. The cou­ple even­tu­ally set­tled in Los Gatos where they raised seven chil­dren and were ac­tive mem­bers of the St. Mary’s church and school com­mu­ni­ties. Dick passed away in 1985 and Mary be­gan a ca­reer as a book­keeper that lasted an­other 20 years. Only a dif­fi­cult disease such as Dys­to­nia, which im­pacts speech, sight and phys­i­cal move­ment, kept her from con­tin­u­ing.

Mary is pre­de­ceased by her par­ents, broth­ers and sis­ter, her hus­band and el­dest son, Mike, who passed away ear­lier this year. She is sur­vived by her chil­dren John, Mark, Kathy, Jim, Patty and Liz and their spouses along with 10 grand­chil­dren and one great grand­child. She is also sur­vived by her beloved nieces and neph­ews and many close friends. Mary was a world trav­eler, cham­pion bridge player, a mu­si­cian, sup­porter of great causes, a teacher, and a lov­ing wife, daugh­ter, sis­ter, mother, grand­mother, aunt and true friend to many, many peo­ple.

Ser­vices will be held at the Church of St. Mary of the Im­mac­u­late Con­cep­tion, 219 Bean Av­enue, Los Gatos, on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 20 at 11:00am.
