Mil­ton Schwartz passed away peace­fully on Oc­to­ber 5, 2018. A long­time res­i­dent of Bel­mont, Cal­i­for­nia, he was born on May 12, 1920 in New York City to Harry and Shirley Schwartz.

Dur­ing WWII, Milt served as a Li­ai­son Of­fi­cer of the Army’s 20th Ar­mored Di­vi­sion, which took part in lib­er­at­ing the Dachau con­cen­tra­tion camp in 1945. Af­ter the war, he com­pleted his B.S. in Civil En­gi­neer­ing at UC Berke­ley and worked for the Cal­i­for­nia Di­vi­sion of High­ways for 7 years be­fore ac­cept­ing a po­si­tion at Piombo Con­struc­tion Com­pany and set­tling in Bel­mont in 1954.

Milt was a long­time mem­ber of the Ki­wa­nis Club, the As­so­ci­ated Gen­eral Con­trac­tors, and the Sons in Re­tire­ment, and served many years on the Bel­mont County Wa­ter Board and lo­cal PTAs.

Milt passed away peace­fully af­ter suf­fer­ing from Alzheimer’s disease for sev­eral years. He is pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, his sis­ter, Estelle Walsh, and his brother, Eu­gene Schwartz. He is sur­vived by his lov­ing wife of 73 years, Betty, his daugh­ters, Cath­leen Kennedy and Carin Per­rott, four grand­chil­dren and eight great-grand­chil­dren.

At his re­quest, there will be no memo­rial ser­vice. The fam­ily asks that do­na­tions be made to the Alzheimer’s As­so­ci­a­tion.
