Fond memories of the late Albert Boscov
Letter: Boscov had an enormous presence not just in the management of his stores but in the lives of workers.
I’m so glad The Mercury did a front-page article on Albert Boscov. I moved to Reading after I graduated from college and went into a retail executive training program at the former Pomeroy’s. Boscov’s was just a baby and the big downtown department stores downplayed the innovation and expansion of Boscov’s. We all know who lasted and thrived.
Years later, when I was involved in various promotional activities about town, I was meeting with Albert for something (I don’t recall what). I will never forget his wife and daughter rushing into his office to ask him to sample the latest fudge. He was happy to comply. That small taste exemplifies the very large presence he had in all aspects of the store. I just hope everything stays the way he built and dreamed it to be. — Susan Shiber Pottstown
