Hoskins, Quinn lift Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs over Columbus Clippers, 7-4

COLUMBUS, OHIO >> Rhys Hoskins homered and doubled, scoring two runs as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs topped the Columbus Clippers 7-4 on Thursday.

Roman Quinn doubled twice with two RBIs for Lehigh Valley.

Pedro Beato got Yandy Diaz to fly out with runners on first and second to end the game for his fourth save of the season.

Columbus started the scoring in the second inning when Richie Shaffer hit a two-run home run.

After Lehigh Valley scored three runs in the third, the IronPigs added to their lead in the fifth inning when Hoskins hit a solo home run and Logan Moore hit a two-run double.

The IronPigs tacked on another run in the ninth when Hoskins scored on a fielder’s choice.

Lehigh Valley righthande­r Mark Appel (1-2) picked up the win after allowing two runs on four hits over five innings. Opposing starter Travis Banwart (0-1) took the loss in the Internatio­nal League game after giving up three runs and four hits over 2 1/3 innings.

With the win, Lehigh Valley improved to 4-2 against Columbus this season.
