Police make several arrests during DUI checkpoint

EXETER » Officers made contact with over 1,000 drivers recently during a DUI checkpoint that was set up last week.

Police said in a release Monday that an overnight DUI checkpoint set up on June 8 on the 700 block of Baumtown Road yielded several arrests including some for drug possession. Police said the following incidents resulted from the checkpoint:

• 11 DUI arrests including drugs and alcohol

• Six drug possession charges

• One traffic related fraud • 23 traffic citations • 19 warnings issued

In addition to these interactio­ns, police said they handed out pamphlets with informatio­n about the dangers of DUI to each driver that came through the checkpoint.

Exeter Police participat­ed in the checkpoint along with other agencies including Central Berks Regional Police, Amity Township Police, Hamburg Borough Police, Muhlenberg Township Police, Pennsylvan­ia State Police, Shillingto­n Borough Police, Douglass Township Police, Wyomissing Borough Police, Spring Township Police, Northern Berks Regional Police and Exeter Township Fire Police.
