Fair, weather, friends

The Middletown Press (Middletown, CT) - - FRONT PAGE -

Following a deluge of rain Sunday morning, the skies cleared just enough to encourage die-hard fans of the Portland Agricultural Fair to don boots and an outfit they didn’t mind getting a little muddy and head to the fairgrounds. There, the Sizzler whirred, the pumpkin rides spun, the Great Hill Mountain Band serenaded the crowd under a tent and, off in the corner, Brian Bascom led a wine-tasting class as participants swirled a red nectar in their glasses. The Dirty Ditch Mud Runs drew a large and sustained crowd all afternoon as souped-up and monster trucks roared their way into — and through — a giant pond of rainwater.
