Info: The Sorop­ti­mist In­ter­na­tional of Modesto presents the pro­gram “Dream It, Be It.” The pro­gram works to im­prove the lives of women and girls through pro­grams lead­ing to so­cial and eco­nomic em­pow­er­ment. This is a day­long con­fer­ence for se­condary school-age girls, where they will learn about ca­reer op­por­tu­ni­ties, set­ting and achiev­ing goals, and over­com­ing ob­sta­cles to suc­cess. Info: Com­mu­nity Hospice will honor those who have served and are cur­rently serv­ing our coun­try in the armed forces at the an­nual Vet­er­ans Pav­il­ion Ded­i­ca­tion Cer­e­mony. Com­mu­nity mem­bers are wel­come to re­flect and memorialize a loved one. There is no charge to at­tend. Com­mu­nity Hospice is a part­ner in the “We Honor Vet­er­ans” pro­gram, which is a Na­tional Hospice and Pal­lia­tive Care Or­ga­ni­za­tion pro­gram. Light re­fresh­ments will be served. What: River­bank His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety Movie Fundraiser

When: Thurs­day, Nov. 15, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Gal­axy Theatre, 2525 Pat­ter­son Road

Info: The River­bank His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety is host­ing a fundraiser at Gal­axy Theatre cel­e­brat­ing the 25th an­niver­sary of “Back To The Fu­ture 2.” There will be two DeLore­ans on dis­play and other movie mem­o­ra­bilia. Tick­ets are $20; all pro­ceeds go to­ward the mu­seum’s ex­pan­sion to house the City’s 1918 City Fire Truck and other large items. 100 YEARS AGO: Due to the in­fluenza epi­demic, Modesto Mayor Mor­ris de­ter­mined that the or­di­nance on wear­ing masks while in pub­lic would re­main in ef­fect. The mayor reached this de­ci­sion with city and county health of­fi­cer Dr. J. K. Ran­som. The Modesto School Board also de­ter­mined that schools would re­main closed un­til the mayor lifted the mask re­quire­ment. Ceres schools were to re­main closed, as well as coun­try schools and Sun­day church schools.
