Schools announce COVID closures Coronavirus sacks football tradition

The pandemic continued to

affect education in the Lehigh Valley. District officials in the Saucon Valley and East Penn school districts announced planned closures, with all-online education, joining other districts, including Easton.

What’s next? Saucon Valley

will reopen Dec. 7, and East Penn Dec. 14. Easton reopens Dec. 1.

The 114th edition of the

Easton-Phillipsburg football rivalry, which is traditionally played on Thanksgiving morning, was canceled for this year. In a joint statement, the schools said it was due to issues involving coronavirus and interstate travel.

What’s next? New Jersey begins new coronavirus restrictions on Monday, which made a Thanksgiving game virtually impossible. A plan to play on Saturday was quickly scrapped.
