Bangor Area to hold kindergarten sign-up ‘Positive Dialogue’ addresses HIV issues
The Bangor Area School District is accepting kindergarten registration for the 2021-2022 school year. Children are eligible for kindergarten if they are at least 5 by Aug. 31, reside in the district and complete the kindergarten screening process. Kindergarten registration is online and is available for parents and guardians through the district website: www.bangorslaters.com.
A parent-only kindergarten registration information meeting will be held via Zoom at 7 p.m. Jan. 26. The Zoom session will be available on the district website. To schedule a screening appointment, the completed online registration and mandatory documents must be submitted and approved by the registration secretary.
A completed registration includes parent/guardian photo identification, proof of child’s birth date, two proofs of residency, immunization, physical exam record and dental exam record. Once online registration is submitted and approved, Five Points Elementary School will contact parents/guardians regarding a kindergarten screening appointment. Because of COVID-19, the district has not determined kindergarten registration dates at this time. Our goal is to conduct in-person screening appointments when it is safe. All screenings are by appointment only. An adult must accompany the child for their screening appointment.

Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center and FACT Bucks County (Fighting AIDS Continuously Together) are partnering to present “Positive Dialogue,” a series of online conversations about HIV prevention and healthy living for people who are HIV-positive.
The first session will be held 3 p.m. Jan. 26 via the Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center Facebook page and the FACT Bucks County YouTube channel. FACT Bucks County Vice President David Witchell will moderate an hourlong conversation with three panelists: clinical therapist Dinnette Medina; Nick Barbati, Rider University associate dean of campus life; and Bucks County resident Kevin Gilmore.
The topic of this first conversation will center around HIV and COVID-19. Panelists will discuss how to access local support services including HIV case management, mental health, and testing. Links to these resources will be provided after the session.
This community outreach initiative will provide facts and information and give individuals at risk or living with HIV the tools to make educated choices for self-improvement and tools to stay healthy.
