The Morning Call (Sunday)

Tennis player offers winning example

-

Pandemic and insurrection got you down? What a way to start the new year.

But my sleep-deprived spirits were buoyed reading the article about Naomi Osaka recently in The Morning Call.

She’s the 23-year-old tennis professional who won her second U.S. Open last September, and was voted the Female Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press.

In addition to being a stellar athlete, Osaka “stood out for speaking out about racial injustice and police brutality.” As a biracial young American (her parents are of Japanese and Haitian descent), Osaka represents a future we can all be hopeful about.

Things will improve for everyone if we adopt and apply her simple and thoughtful New Year’s resolutions: “Work hard, do better, speak out, be kind.”
