The Morning Call

Things we can all celebrate

-

It is amazing that people on opposite sides of the political spectrum celebrate Independence Day. Both left and right, red and blue, display the flag and celebrate the America we know and love. I celebrate:

Those who fought for this country believing that America’s freedoms are so important that they were worthy of their sacrifice.

The life that I have been blessed to live, knowing in my heart that the American experience in the world is truly unique.

My fellow Americans. While so much can separate us, the one thing that unites us is our common desire to live a full life enjoying the blessings of liberty and happiness.

Although my own heart breaks over the past 3½ years, and especially at this moment, I celebrate that our founders created a government that is capable of righting itself again, as it has in the past. I celebrate that the American dream is still alive — even on the darkest days.

My hope this day is that we will find a way to treat each other with respect and even kindness. And if this is more than we are capable of today, then we will commit to do better tomorrow. Thomas Dilts Milford Township
