SOUPer Bowl food drive on again

The sixth annual SOUPer Bowl food drive, which benefits the Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services, will take place Sept. 2 during the Avon vs. Avon Lake varsity football game at Avon Lake High School stadium, 175 Avon Belden Road.

Collection trucks will be at the stadium at 6 p.m. and there also will be drop off locations throughout the communitie­s, as well as at school buildings.

The competitio­n challenges both of the communitie­s to collect the most food.

A trophy is awarded to the community with the heaviest truck.

Monetary donations also are accepted as each $1 will be counted at five pounds.

Items that are most needed are peanut butter, cereal, canned meats and fruits and paper products. Food items donated must be nonperisha­ble and not have expired dates.

Since the competitio­n’s inception in 2010, the SOUPer Bowl food drive has collected $59,083 in cash donations and 37,118 pounds of food, according to a news release.
