Man sit­ting on tracks struck, killed by train

The Lo­rain Po­lice Depart­ment is in­ves­ti­gat­ing a fa­tal train ver­sus pedes­trian col­li­sion Sept. 16.

Ac­cord­ing to a re­lease from the depart­ment, they were called to the Nor­folk South­ern Cor­po­ra­tion tracks near Ober­lin Av­enue and West 14th Street at 4:02 p.m.

A Nor­folk South­ern train was trav­el­ing east­bound on the tracks when it ap­proached a man sit­ting on them. The en­gi­neer sounded the horn and bells and ini­ti­ated the emer­gency brakes to avoid strik­ing the man, but col­lided with the man killing him, the re­lease said.

The man was iden­ti­fied as 46-year- old Ken­neth Fox, of Lo­rain. His fam­ily has been con­tacted and his body was trans­ported to the county morgue by the Lo­rain County Coro­ner’s Of­fice, the re­lease said.

The road was closed for three hours while of­fi­cers in­ves­ti­gated and pro­cessed phys­i­cal ev­i­dence. They were as­sisted by the Lo­rain Po­lice Aux­il­iary and Nor­folk South­ern Po­lice Depart­ment, the re­lease said.
