Ser­vices of­fered for hear­ing im­paired in­mates

Lo­rain County Sher­iff Phil R. Stam­mitti along with the Lo­rain County Jail Com­mand Staff have im­ple­mented the in­stal­la­tion of a no cost Video Re­lay Ser­vices through Pur­ple Com­mu­ni­ca­tions that will pro­vide free com­mu­ni­ca­tion ser­vices for hear­ing im­paired in­mates.

Ac­cord­ing to a me­dia re­lease from Stam­mitti, in or­der to qual­ify for the free ser­vice and to en­sure Pur­ple Com­mu­ni­ca­tions was com­pli­ant with fed­eral re­quire­ments, the County Jail was re­quired to sub­mit in­for­ma­tion to as­sure spe­cific fed­eral guide­lines were met.

The Video Re­lay Ser­vices are a wall mounted touch screen PC with a cam­era which al­lows hear­ing im­paired in­mates a se­cure con­nec­tion to Pur­ple Com­mu­ni­ca­tion’s live in­ter­preters via video con­nec­tion, the re­lease said.

The live in­ter­preter will act as a trans­la­tor be­tween the hear­ing im­paired in­mate and the hear­ing called party, ac­cord­ing to the re­lease. — Staff report
