Services offered for hearing impaired inmates
Lorain County Sheriff Phil R. Stammitti along with the Lorain County Jail Command Staff have implemented the installation of a no cost Video Relay Services through Purple Communications that will provide free communication services for hearing impaired inmates.
According to a media release from Stammitti, in order to qualify for the free service and to ensure Purple Communications was compliant with federal requirements, the County Jail was required to submit information to assure specific federal guidelines were met.
The Video Relay Services are a wall mounted touch screen PC with a camera which allows hearing impaired inmates a secure connection to Purple Communication’s live interpreters via video connection, the release said.
The live interpreter will act as a translator between the hearing impaired inmate and the hearing called party, according to the release. — Staff report
