New treasurer feels Midview is the right fit

- By Zachary Srnis

The Midview School District recently hired Rob Showalter as its new treasurer.

Showalter, who lives in Lakewood, wanted a treasurer position and said he is glad he landed the vacancy at Midview.

“It was a great opportunity that I didn’t want to pass up,” he said. “Proximity and fit were the two keys for the position, and Midview provides both.”

Growing up in Elmore, Showalter said he wanted to do something in finance.

“Prior to working in schools, I was an auditor,” he said. “It was when I worked as an auditor for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District that I developed a desire to work in schools.

“When I worked in accounting, it wasn’t as rewarding as when I started working in schools. It’s great to see the kids and know you’re making an impact in their lives.

“I had a lot of teachers and administrators who made me who I am today, and I felt like this is my way to give back and help the future generation.”

Showalter, who’s first day at Midview was Feb. 5, said it has been a great experience.

“This is my first time as a treasurer and I’ve really enjoyed getting the position and getting to know people in the district,” he said. “I served as the assistant treasurer for about three years in the Strongsville City Schools District.

“It was a great learning experience and I will miss the people over there. But I’m very excited about my future here at Midview.”

Showalter said the Midview position was what he was looking for in a school district.

“The district has a board that will be willing to work with me and get things done,” he said. “We share the same values, and that is why the district will continue to be effective.

“The standards that we share are supporting academic achievement through fiscal prudence and community engagement. The main goal is, obviously, the academics. But we want the community support as well.”

Showalter said he looks forward to the road ahead.

“I’m really excited to learn everything I can,” he said. “Most of this week has been getting to know people in the district.

“We have a very supportive community who is passionate about the district, and I think great things are still to come at Midview.”
