Elyria man ac­cused of as­sault­ing of­fi­cer

Elyria po­lice charged Paul J. Chike, 52, with as­sault­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer, a fourth-de­gree felony, and re­sist­ing ar­rest, a first-de­gree mis­de­meanor, af­ter they say he struck an of­fi­cer with his right leg, ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port.

Po­lice re­sponded to a drunken dis­agree­ment at 141 Prince­ton Ave. at 9:21 p.m., Feb. 13.

The re­port said Chike was found ly­ing on the floor of an up­stairs room and was be­ing as­sisted out the door when he kicked an of­fi­cer in the thigh.

Chike con­tin­ued to fight and strug­gle with of­fi­cers un­til they were able to put him in hand­cuffs, the re­port said.

Po­lice trans­ported Chike to the Lo­rain County Jail. He has an Elyria Mu­nic­i­pal Court date at 10 a.m., Feb. 21.
