Man’s body found near dumpster

Elyria police have identified the body of a man they found deceased near a dumpster.

Jeffrey L. Libengood, 45, who last lived in Elyria, was pronounced dead shortly after 12:45 p.m. Oct. 11 after his body was discovered at 242 Chestnut Commons Drive, according to Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino.

Costantino said Libengood was discovered between a dumpster and a brick wall that conceals the dumpster while an employee of a nearby business was taking out trash.

“Officers found aerosol cans near the body, so we believe he was ‘huffing,’ ” Costantino said. “Officers were called for Libengood Oct. 7 to the same area for doing the same thing.

“He was disoriented and taken to the hospital. He was later discharged. Unfortunately, he went back to the same spot and again inhaled aerosol cans.”

Costantino said police believe the death is related to the aerosol cans because no signs of foul play were found at the scene.

“His family has been notified, and we await the autopsy to learn more,” he said.
