- Staff report

A police standoff occurred July 14 at a Grafton home after police say a man shot his wife and later killed himself.

About 9:59 a.m. a 53-year-old woman approached a Grafton police officer conducting a traffic detail in the 300 Block of North Main Street.

The woman reported to the officer that she had been shot by her husband, and the shooting occurred in the 1000 block of Hunters Chase, according to a news release.

The woman had visible gunshot wounds to the upper part of her body. Officers rendered first aid to the victim.

The initial investigation indicated that her husband, a 60-year-old man, arrived at the couple’s home on Hunters Chase and confronted his wife about their separation.

When his wife indicated that she did not want to reconcile, the man attempted to trap her in their garage. The woman was able to exit the garage and onto the driveway of the home, where her husband chased her and began shooting at her, striking her approximately three times, the release said.
