Man charged with felo­nious as­sault

A 21-year-old Rus­sell Town­ship man ac­cused of as­sault­ing a fam­ily mem­ber with a knife in Wil­loughby Oct. 29 was ar­raigned Oct. 30 in Wil­loughby Mu­nic­i­pal Court, records there show.

Mitchell G. Hod­gins, of 14842 Caves Road, faces one sec­ond-de­gree count each of felo­nious as­sault and felo­nious as­sault/ caus­ing phys­i­cal harm, along with one first-de­gree mis­de­meanor count each of do­mes­tic vi­o­lence and car­ry­ing a con­cealed weapon.

A news re­lease is­sued by the Wil­loughby Po­lice De­part­ment in­di­cates Hod­gins and the rel­a­tive were asked to leave a Lake Shore Boule­vard bar be­fore they be­gan fight­ing in the street. Dur­ing the fight, it is al­leged that Hod­gins stabbed the 49-year-old vic­tim nu­mer­ous times in the left hand and left arm.

Po­lice re­port the vic­tim was trans­ported to Hill­crest Hos­pi­tal by Wil­loughby first re­spon­ders.

Hod­gins’ bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety and he’s sched­uled to ap­pear for a pre­trial/pre­lim­i­nary hear­ing Nov. 2, his court doc­u­ments con­firm.

If con­victed of both felony counts, Hod­gins could get up to 16 years be­hind bars.
