Man charged with felonious assault
A 21-year-old Russell Township man accused of assaulting a family member with a knife in Willoughby Oct. 29 was arraigned Oct. 30 in Willoughby Municipal Court, records there show.
Mitchell G. Hodgins, of 14842 Caves Road, faces one second-degree count each of felonious assault and felonious assault/ causing physical harm, along with one first-degree misdemeanor count each of domestic violence and carrying a concealed weapon.
A news release issued by the Willoughby Police Department indicates Hodgins and the relative were asked to leave a Lake Shore Boulevard bar before they began fighting in the street. During the fight, it is alleged that Hodgins stabbed the 49-year-old victim numerous times in the left hand and left arm.
Police report the victim was transported to Hillcrest Hospital by Willoughby first responders.
Hodgins’ bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety and he’s scheduled to appear for a pretrial/preliminary hearing Nov. 2, his court documents confirm.
If convicted of both felony counts, Hodgins could get up to 16 years behind bars.
