Kevon Freeman Lake Catholic, Senior
When Kevon Freeman came to Lake Catholic as a freshman, he hoped that he’d eventually be a state champion. When Freeman graduates this spring, he will do so as the only three-time champion in program history. Freeman recently finished his senior year at Lake Catholic with a 48-5 record and his third state championship. He won a 4-3 decision over St. Paris Graham’s Ryan Thomas for the trifecta, which helped make him the 2017-18 NewsHerald wrestler of the year. “It’s exciting to know my accomplishments got me all these accolades,” Freeman said. “It’s great to know I’m wrestler of the year for The News-Herald.” Freeman’s only losses this season came at the rugged Ironman and Beast of the East tournaments, losses that helped him prepare for his end-of-the-season run. He ends his career at Lake Catholic with a program record 170 victories. He plans on wrestling on the college level, but has not made his decision yet. His senior year, ending it with a victory, will always be special to him. “I don’t think I could have imagined three state titles,” he said, “but I’m super glad I achieved it.” Find out more in a video interview right now on News-Herald.com.
