Mary (Chan­dris) Ay­vali­o­tis

Ay­vali­o­tis, Mary Chan­dris, passed away on Novem­ber 1, 2018. Born in Cam­bos, Chios, Greece to the late John Chan­dris and De­spina Ape­sos. Mary grad­u­ated High School and worked as a phar­ma­cist ap­pren­tice and came to the United States in 1952 to help her sis­ter with her fam­ily and ul­ti­mately met her hus­band Peter. Mary worked with her hus­band in his print­ing busi­ness and later worked for the In­de­pen­dent Print­ing Com­pany un­til she re­tired in 1991. She was in­volved in many char­i­ties as­so­ci­ated with the Greek Or­tho­dox Church, in­clud­ing the Ladies Philop­to­chos of the Holy Trin­ity Cathe­dral in New York City, and the Philop­to­chos of the As­sump­tion Church in Dan­bury, Con­necti­cut. She was also a vol­un­teer at St. Michael’s Home for the Aged in Yonkers, and the Trea­surer of the Ladies Panchi­aki So­ci­ety of St. Markella of New York. She is sur­vived by her daugh­ter Bessie Mon­te­sano, M.D., and her hus­band Vin­cent, Deb­bie Sci­p­i­oni and her hus­band Larry, Ste­wart Ay­vali­o­tis and his wife Karen and her seven grand­chil­dren Michael, Socrates, Peter, Marisa and hus­band Dayne, Se­valee, Zachary and Zoe along with nu­mer­ous nieces, neph­ews and friends. She was pre­de­ceased by her hus­band Peter and her sis­ters Athena Bubaris and Daphne Asty­phidis. In lieu of flow­ers, Mary has re­quested do­na­tions be made to the Panchi­aki So­ci­ety of St. Markella or St. Michael’s Home for the Aged. View­ing at Bar­rett Fu­neral Home in Te­nafly, NJ will be on Tues­day, Novem­ber 6th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The fu­neral will be held on Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 7th at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathe­dral of St. John the The­olo­gian and burial at Brook­side Ceme­tery in En­gle­wood, NJ.
