The Dan­bury An­i­mal Wel­fare So­ci­ety has re­ceived a $1,000 grant to send a vol­un­teer to a ses­sion that will fo­cus on im­prov­ing life for shel­ter dogs.

The grant comes from the Petfinder Foun­da­tion’s Dogs Play­ing for Life Men­tor­ship Pro­gram.

The grant cov­ers tu­ition for one per­son from the Petfinder mem­ber’s or­ga­ni­za­tion to at­tend a Dogs Play­ing for Life Men­tor­ship ses­sion. These ses­sions fo­cus on teach­ing vol­un­teers how to lead safe play groups for dogs and how to im­prove their skills as train­ers, ac­cord­ing to Petfinder’s web­site.

The Petfinder Foun­da­tion helps an­i­mal shel­ters find homes for their pets and has pro­vided more than $20 mil­lion in cash and grants to shel­ters and res­cue groups.
