Au­thor­i­ties said two men were ar­rested Fri­day af­ter po­lice dis­cov­ered a sub­stan­tial amount of drugs in­clud­ing co­caine and cash in­side an apart­ment on Bank Street.

Po­lice said the in­ves­ti­ga­tion be­gan weeks ear­lier based on com­plaints about drug ac­tiv­ity in the area. Che­va­lier Ter­rell Purvis, of Water­bury, fled to the rear of the apart­ment when po­lice be­gan their search late Thurs­day. He then at­tempted to swal­low a sig­nif­i­cant amount of co­caine, au­thor­i­ties said.

Purvis, along with city res­i­dent Christo­pher Maloney, were ar­rested on nu­mer­ous drug charges in­clud­ing pos­ses­sion of nar­cotics and pos­ses­sion with in­tent to sell. Both were held on $100,000 bonds pend­ing their ar­raign­ments.
