Guerrera to join Danbury High hall of fame
The Danbury High School Athletic Hall of Fame’s 12th annual induction ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 26 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury. Among this year’s honorees will be 2003 graduate Tracy Guerrera.
Guerrera was a threesport athlete who played varsity volleyball, basketball and softball for four years while at Danbury High. She was also a senior captain for all three sports and earned FCIAC honors in all three sports.
As a senior, she was an FCIAC Scholar-Athlete in softball. She was also on The News-Times 2003 All-Area girls basketball team. During her senior basketball season, she averaged 10.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game for the 18-5 Hatters, who were FCIAC Western Division champs in 2003.
After her graduation from Danbury High, Guerrera continued her athletic and academic career at Central Connecticut State University, playing on their Division I softball team. While at Central, she was known as a solid defender. As a freshman, she appeared in 17 games, and had a .990 fielding percentage. As a sophomore, she played in 21 games and had a .969 fielding percentage. Guerrera started 27 games her junior year, and was senior captain her final year playing for the Blue Devils.
After receiving her BS degree in elementary education from CCSU, Guerrera returned to Danbury, where she continues to live and work. She is passionate about educating the next generation and has been teaching fifth grade at Morris Street School since 2011. This fall, she swapped calculators for coloring books as she embarked on a new challenge teaching kindergarten. In addition to her responsibilities in the classroom at Morris Street School, Guerrera is actively involved with the board of the PTO and volunteering for other philanthropic causes. In her free time, she plays first base and bats clean-up in the Bethel Women’s Softball League.
