POLICE CHASE ENDS WITH PROSTITUTION-RELATED CHARGES
Police chased a reportedly armed suspect through downtown streets after a disagreement between a prostitute and her client.
Police were called to the area of Frankin Street — less than a block from the police station — on a report of a street robbery with a gun. The woman, later identified as Karen Santoro, said she was robbed at gunpoint and that the suspect fled.
Police chased the man, who was identified as Edwin Ramirez, on foot through the neighborhood before apprehending the suspect. He didn’t have a weapon with him at the time, police said.
After further investigation, police said they discovered Santoro offered to have sex with Ramirez for an undisclosed amount of money.
Ramirez later “reneged on the agreement,” police said, and took his money back. That’s when Santoro called police to report a robbery.
Both Ramirez and Santoro were arrested. Ramirez was charged with patronizing a prostitute and interfering with a police officer while Santoro was charged with prostitution and false reporting of a crime.
Both were released from police custody on written promises to appear in court.
