Im­mac­u­late soc­cer reaches Class S quar­ters

The Im­mac­u­late boys soc­cer team reached the Class S quar­ter­fi­nals for the first time since 1998, as late goals from Quinn Guth and Tris­tian DiNatale sealed a 3-1 win over St. Paul on Thurs­day af­ter­noon. DiNatale scored twice for the Mus­tangs, who will visit No. 2 Litchfield in Sat­ur­day’s quar­ter­fi­nals.

DiNatale opened the scor­ing at the Farm­ing­ton Sports Arena. No. 23 Im­mac­u­late is the low­est seed re­main­ing in any class.

Brook­field was ousted in the Class M tour­na­ment by Tol­land, which claimed a 1-0 road win un­der the lights. Ryan Sirois notched the win­ner for the Ea­gles. SWC fi­nal­ist Bar­low was elim­i­nated from the Class L play­offs as Bran­ford claimed a penalty shootout win af­ter a 0-0 tie. The Hor­nets won the shootout 5-4.

In Class LL, Pomperaug claimed a 1-0 up­set of No. 5 Farm­ing­ton on the road, seal­ing a place in the quar­ter­fi­nals. The Pan­thers will host No. 13 Conard, which up­set South Wind­sor.

FIELD HOCKEY

Madi­son Halas twice found the back of the cage as No. 3 Im­mac­u­late beat de­fend­ing cham­pion North Bran­ford 3-1 to ad­vance to the Class S semi­fi­nals for a sec­ond straight year. Francesca Cop­pola also scored for the Mus­tangs, who will face No. 2 Ston­ing­ton in the semi­fi­nals.

New Fair­field had its sea­son end Thurs­day as Ston­ing­ton claimed a 2-0 win.

VOL­LEY­BALL

No. 2 Bar­low swept East Haven 3-0 (25-12, 25-4, 25-13) to ad­vance to the Class L quar­ter­fi­nals on Thurs­day. The Fal­cons will host Guil­ford in the fi­nal eight on Sat­ur­day at 6 p.m.

No. 12 Brook­field dropped a 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-20) de­ci­sion to Tol­land in Class L.
