NFL IN BRIEF Saints place Bryant on IR, promote Kirkwood
Dez Bryant’s season is over before it had even begun.
The New Orleans Saints placed the newly acquired wide receiver on injured reserve Saturday, promoting receiver Keith Kirkwood from the practice squad to the active roster before Sunday’s game at Cincinnati. Bryant was injured during his second practice with New Orleans on Friday. A person familiar with the situation says Bryant has a torn Achilles tendon. Bay, but with a bye week coming would have the chance for plenty of rest ahead of a Nov. 25 game against the Jets.
Bills: The Bills ruled out rookie Josh Allen and announced that Matt Barkley is expected to start against the Jets.
Barkley gets the nod instead of turnover-prone Nathan Peterman despite having just two weeks of practice experience in Buffalo. He was signed Oct. 30 and will become the fourth quarterback to start for the team this season. It will be his first start in two years.
Giants: Offensive lineman Patrick Omameh, an offseason acquisition who started the first six games of the season at right guard, was waived. That cleared the way to promote return man Quadree Henderson from the practice squad, four days after he was waived to free up a roster spot for another player.
Jets: The Jets signed quarterback Davis Webb from the practice squad and placed tight end Neal Sterling on season-ending injured reserve.
