The orig­i­nal owner of Sprite Is­land, Sid­ney G. DeKay, used the prop­erty as a breed­ing grounds for col­lies.

Sprite Is­land Yacht Club was orig­i­nally formed by dis­sat­is­fied mem­bers of the for­mer As­cen­sion Beach and Pool Club in the early 1950s.

Though (ge­o­log­i­cally) Sprite Is­land is one of the Norwalk Is­lands, it is in Westport wa­ters.

A bluff on Sprite Is­land’s east­ern shore is con­sid­ered the Long Is­land Sound shore­line’s high­est nat­u­ral point in Norwalk.

Each year, the Sprite Is­land Yacht Club hosts an au­then­tic New Eng­land-style clam bake us­ing heated stones and sea­weed.
