The so­lar eclipse on Mon­day blocked out about 75 per­cent of the sun’s light in the Cen­tral Val­ley for a brief pe­riod in the morn­ing; view­ers needed spe­cial glasses to safely view the sun be­ing cov­ered by the moon. Top photo, on the ground, there were many ways to see the phe­nom­e­non, in­clud­ing here, as the cres­cent shapes of what re­mained of the sun were pro­jected through the leaves of a tree at the Escalon Times-Oak­dale Leader River­bank News of­fice shortly af­ter 10 a.m. on Aug. 21.
