La­bor Day Week­end Triathlon In Bear Val­ley

The pic­turesque set­ting of Alpine County is the lo­ca­tion for the ex­cit­ing 25th An­nual Bear Val­ley Triathlon. The pop­u­lar Cen­tral Sierra La­bor Day Week­end tra­di­tion will be held on Sun­day morn­ing, Sept. 3, the day be­fore La­bor Day Mon­day, at Bear Lake, in Bear Val­ley Vil­lage.

Nes­tled in a moun­tain lo­ca­tion, the triathlon course fea­tures a 600-yard swim (warm wa­ter, close to 70 de­grees, wet suits are al­lowed, but not nec­es­sary); 10.5-mile bike ride (rolling, climb­ing loop course); and 3.4-mile run (rolling road). Air tem­per­a­ture will be ap­prox­i­mately 70 de­grees by 10:30 a.m. The triathlon will con­clude with the awards cer­e­mony, raf­fle, and a bar­be­cue.

All par­tic­i­pants must pro­vide and wear a swim cap for the swim and an ANSI ap­proved bike hel­met dur­ing the bike. The tra­di­tional On Your Mark Events tro­phies will be awarded to the first over­all male and fe­male win­ners and the mas­ters over­all male and fe­male fin­ish­ers (ages 50 and over). The top three fin­ish­ers (male and fe­male cat­e­gories) age groups in 10-year in­cre­ments to 70-years-old and over, will re­ceive en­graved medals. The top male, fe­male, and co-ed triathlon teams will also be awarded medals.

En­try fee in­cludes re­fresh­ments, T-shirt, awards, raf­fle ticket, and post-race bar­be­cue lunch with beer (for those 21 and over). Lunch is avail­able to non-run­ners at a cost of $10 for adults and $7 for chil­dren 12 and un­der.

The Bear Val­ley Triathlon en­try fee is $80 in ad­vance and $85 on race day. Team fee (three par­tic­i­pants, reg­is­ter­ing at the same time) is $200 in ad­vance and $220 on race day.

Race check-in and reg­is­tra­tion will open at 8:30 a.m., fol­lowed by the start time at 10 a.m.
