John Jess Ramos, also known as “DeDe,” 77, of River­bank, Ca died Fri­day, Au­gust 25, 2017, in Modesto, Ca fol­low­ing a bat­tle with COPD.

Visi­ta­tion will be on Thurs­day, Au­gust 31, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Oak­dale Memo­rial Chapel, 830 West F St. Oak­dale, Ca. The Rosary will be Thurs­day, Au­gust 31, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Oak­dale Memo­rial Chapel, 830 West F St. Oak­dale, Ca. The Mass will be Fri­day, Septem­ber 1, 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1225 Olive Ave., Oak­dale, Ca. The Burial will be Fri­day, Septem­ber 1, 11:30 a.m. at St. Stanis­laus Catholic Ceme­tery 1141 Scenic Dr., Modesto, Ca. A re­cep­tion will fol­low the burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1225 Olive Ave., Oak­dale, Ca.

John was born on De­cem­ber 26, 1940, in Ne­wark Ca. He grew up in the east bay, and Modesto and grad­u­ated from Modesto High School in 1958. He mar­ried Anita Baker of River­bank in Reno, Ne­vada on Novem­ber 19, 1960. John served in the Army in the Viet­nam War. He was hon­or­ably dis­charged and re­ceived the Na­tional De­fense Ser­vice Medal, Viet­nam Ser­vice Medal, Viet­nam Cam­paign Medal and a Pur­ple Heart.

He lived in River­bank, CA for over 50 years and re­tired from Sharpe Army De­pot in 2005. In his re­tire­ment, he en­joyed par­tic­i­pat­ing in the McHenry Bowl Veter­ans League and the Nifty Fifty ex­er­cise group.

He is sur­vived by his wife Anita of 57 years, daugh­ter Traci of San Fran­cisco, Ca, brother Tony Ramos of Oak­land, Ca, brother Gilbert Ramos of Man­dev­ille, La, brother Frank Trejo of Vallejo, Ca, and Car­men Saliaz of Fre­mont, Ca. John was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents John M. and Ale­jan­dría Ramos and his sister Elvera Ju­lia Hur­tado.
