Video Se­ries Hon­ors Korean War Vet­eran

The lat­est Thank-a-Vet Thurs­day (TVT) video, posted on Sept. 21 through Con­gress­man Jeff Den­ham’s of­fice, hon­ors U.S. Navy vet­eran Al Men­shew, who served his coun­try dur­ing the Korean War.

Shared on Rep. Den­ham’s Face­book, Twit­ter and YouTube pages, the video is an ex­cerpt of an interview con­ducted by Den­ham staff mem­ber and Ma­rine Corps vet­eran Ed­die Men­doza as part of Rep. Den­ham’s on­go­ing ef­forts with the Li­brary of Congress Vet­er­ans His­tory Project.

Al Men­shew en­listed in the U.S. Navy in 1948 at age 17. He served two tours in Korea as a store­keeper aboard the U.S.S. Ba­do­eng Strait and the U.S.S. Jenk­ins re­spec­tively, tak­ing part in the In­chon In­va­sion and Pu­san Perime­ter cam­paign among oth­ers. He was awarded the Con­gres­sional Unit Ci­ta­tion, Korean Pres­i­den­tial Unit Ci­ta­tion, Good Con­duct Medal, Amer­i­can De­fense Medal, Korean United Na­tions Medal, Amer­i­can Korean Con­flict Medal with four com­bat stars, and China Service Medal.
