Q: I just binged all of season seven of “Portlandia” on Netlfix, and I’m so worried it might be the last season. Please tell me I’m wrong! -Maryann G., via email
A: I am happy to report that you are indeed wrong, Maryann. Starting Thursday, Jan. 18, at 10 p.m. ET, IFC will bring us one last 10-episode season of the fabulously funny comedy, which stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. Season eight’s new and returning guest stars include Rachel Bloom, John Corbett, Terry Crews, Jeff Goldblum, Rashida Jones, Kyle MacLachlan, John Mulaney, Nick Kroll, Krist Novoselic and more. As you have discovered, viewers can catch up on seasons one through seven on Netflix and iTunes.
Q: It’s nearly impossible to wade through all the homeimprovement/house-flipping shows on TV anymore. Can you tell me what the cast of the original fixer-upper show, “Trading Spaces,” is doing now? -- Carolyn F., via Twitter A: You’ll be happy to know that the ol’ gang is getting back together! Rumors have been swirling for months that the show would be rebooted, and just a few weeks ago, those rumors proved to be true. TLC is bringing back “Trading Spaces,” as well as several of its original designer experts, in spring 2018. Host Paige Davis was the first to come back aboard, with Doug Wilson, Carter Oosterhouse, Frank Bielec, Genevieve Gorder, Hildi Santo-Tomas, Laurie Smith,
Ty Pennington and Vern Yip following suit.
Q: I’m so happy that “Dancing With the Stars” has returned, but where is
Julianne Hough? -- Kaley F., Bentonville, Arkansas
A: As of this writing, no official statement has been made about her departure from the show, only that the show was back to its “original three judges.” But never fear -- once a member of the “DWTS” family, always a member of the “DWTS” family. As we know, dancers come and go, and come back again (Julianne’s brother, Derek, being one such dancer) depending on their schedules, so I don’t see why it shouldn’t be the same for judges. Methinks the newlywed just wanted to spend time with her new hubby, NHL player Brooks Laich, whom she married in July. Julianne also recently launched her own line of workout gear, so at the moment, she’s got a lot on her plate. *** Q: When will all my CW superhero shows be back? -- Kyle T., via email
A: Practically just as soon as you can read this paragraph, Kyle. “Supergirl” returns Monday, Oct. 9, at 8/7c (followed by the new military drama “Valor” at 9/8c). The next night, Tuesday, Oct. 10, brings us the return of “The Flash” at 8/7c, followed by “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” at 9/8c. Oh, and in “Flash” casting news, feature-film actor Danny Trejo (“Machete,” “From Dusk Till Dawn”) joins the cast this season as Breacher, a scary bounty hunter from Earth-19, who is also Gypsy’s father.
